Afilias

View their website

Afilias originally began as a Global Registry for the TLD .INFO that was launched in July of 2001. (Source) Recently they began offering Managed DNS services as well. They don't list any of their DNS customers on their site, just some of the TLDs they support. They run an IP Anycast DNS network. They advertise "Site Certain" (their version of failover and system monitoring) and DNSSEC.

You can view a video demo of Afilias's interface on their website. They allow you to set permissions for users and manage all of your DNS records. You can also view detailed query reports by domain, region, and record type. (Source)

After trying to contact Afilias for several months, we were able to get a little bit of pricing information - Full Email Thread.

Afilias has only been providing DNS service for about a year, but during that time period there have been no reports of downtime. Their speeds are pretty eratic and slow.

DNS.COM

View their website

DNS.COM has been active since 1991, the company was formally known as Comwired founded in 2008. They run an IP Anycast DNS network. Their website lists 6 network locations in the United States, and two in Europe, with eight new locations being added in Q2 2010. They only provide 2 name server records. They advertise Geo-directional load balancing included in the price of their DNS service.

They do not offer any information about their interface.

Their pricing page is a little unclear. It appears as though they charge based solely on bandwidth usage rather than per domain or per query. Their startup membership, which is $11.95 per month, includes 200 MB of bandwidth. Their estimate is that this is the equivalent of 1 million queries. They also claim that typical usage is 5 MB per year (25,000 queries). We are unsure where they came up with this number, but in our experience that estimate is remarkably low - most experts would estimate closer to 25,000 queries per month.

Tech support is offered at different tiers - email; email/phone; and "priority phone" - depending on which level of service you purchase.

Cotendo

View their website

Cotendo was founded in 2008 and advertises itself mostly as "a CDN and site acceleration services provider". They do not specifically state whether they are IP Anycast or Unicast, though they do say their servers are globally distributed. They do not list any network locations. It is unclear which (if any) of their features are included in their DNS service.

We were contacted by a representative from Cotendo, and will update this site if they choose to provide us with any more information.
